I started off by making the chair. In order to do that I rolled out slabs and folded them over each other. I then scored and slipped them together to form the chair.
For the body, I started by making a pinch small pinch pot in the shape of a “V”. For the limbs, I rolled coils and cut them diagonally and placed them together to make joints. I then created the shoes by rolling out a thick slab and then carving them out.
I then created the head by rolling a ball and then rolling out a coil for the nose. I carved out eye sockets and added small balls for eyes. For the ears, I rolled small balls and hollowed them out. I added texture by using a dentist tool.
I then created the paws by cutting off a little bit from the wrists and then using an exacto knife to create indentations.
To finish it off, I created the clothes by rolling out a slab and cutting out the shapes I needed to make it look like my project was wearing a suit and tie.
I then painted it using acrylic paint and the dry-brushing technique. I started by painting the head. For that I used solid gray and went over the entire thing. I then mixed the gray with white for some lighter shades and used that to add smaller details.
After I painted the head I mixed the gray with black for the nose and the paws. I used black to paint the clothes and then I used a little bit of white for the shirt and the collar. I used blue for the tie. I used brown for the shoes and the chair. After that was finished I went back and touched up the white spots.
Some of the challenges that I faced were making the head, the shoes, and the paws. Since all of them have very small details, they took me numerous attempts to get them right. For the head, it was the shape. And for the shoes and the paws, it was getting them to be the right size while also looking realistic. Another part of the project that took a few attempts was the clothing because I could not get the size or the blending right. Another issue I had was painting the small details.
I think overall that this did illustrate my original vision and I didn’t have to make changes.
