I started off with a round piece of clay and I added a top piece. I then flattened the back out. After that I added coils and the cross. Because it looked too bulky I decided to make some changes. I shortened it by cutting the top off with a knife. I then smoothed it out with a wooden modeling tool. I redid the cross by drawing it in with a pen over plastic wrap. I then used a needle to add the coils and the whole at the top and that was it.
To paint it, I used the dry brushing technique. I started by paining the black lines. After adding the black lines, I added the gray to the top and the bottom. Finally, I added the green in the middle and then added the white cross.
Some of the challenges that I faced were the clay being too thick, the coils being too bulky, and the details not looking very good. I fixed the issue with the thickness by shaving about 1/8 of an inch off the back. I fixed the issue with the details by carving them in instead of adding them on top. I learned that smaller and more simple designs are easier to work with. Another issue that I faced was the paint being smeared onto the other areas. I fixed this by painting over it with a small brush. I learned that your brush can be too big but not too small.
The final project did resemble my original design. The only thing that changed was that I didn’t include the cap. I didn’t include it because it would be too difficult to make it clear.
I started off with a round cylinder. I added coils and added the top part. I decided that it was too bulky so I took the coils off and i carved them in instead. I then smoothed it and redid the coils with a needle and added the shield using a pen and plastic wrap. After adding the details I smoothed it with a. Wooden smoothing tool. To paint this one, I painted the entire piece gray and then painted the shield blue. The technique I was dry brushing.
The main issue I faced was the coils being too bulky, which I fixed by carving them in. I learned that some details will look better carved in than on top.
The final project does resemble the original. The only change was that the cap was supposed to be a different color.
I started off with two small rectangular pieces with rounded edges and I slipped and scored to put them together. I then added details with a needle and then I put a coil in the middle. To add the cross on the top I used a pen and plastic wrap. At the end I smoothed it with a wooden smoothing tool.m to paint it, I used the dry brushing technique. I started by paining the coil. I then added the red. Finally I added the white on the outside and then added the cross.
The only issue that I faced was the cross being messed up, so i redid it and it looked a lot better.
The final project did resemble the original. The only change was that the coil was supposed to be shiny.
