Pinch Pots

Idea #1

For this pinch pot, I was inspired by Fortnite. It’s a common theme for my projects.

I started with two pinch pots that I put together to make the body of the fish. I then paddled it to make it ready for the added-on parts. I formed the top fin by rolling out both halves and putting them together with a paper towel in the middle to keep them from becoming flat. I added a coil to the top to make it even and then carved the details in. I then made two small pinch pots for the eyes and then put them on. I used small coils for the eyelids. I then made the back fin by rolling out both halves and putting a paper towel in the middle. I then carved in the details and added it to the body. After that i added the lips by making two thick coils and putting them together. To make the two side fins I rolled out two pieces of clay and carved in the details. After that I added them onto the body and blended them in. I touched up the project by smoothing it out and carving the inside of the mouth.

Some of the challenges that I faced were the fins and eyes not having a hole. So I had to poke holes through them and add pieces of clay to cover them. Another issue that I faced was the bottom becoming rigid from the block that it was sitting on. I fixed that by smoothing it and putting it on a paper towel.

The main skill that I learned from the magnet project was smoothing and how important it is. I am definitely becoming more comfortable with clay and I feel like I’m making less mistakes.

I do think that the final project resembled my original vision. The colors are a little different and the final project didn’t have scales on it. My idea changed because I realized that it would be too difficult to add as much detail as the original.

Idea #2

I was inspired by Fortnite again. I think this one looks very cool.
