Coil Pots

I chose this teapot as my first idea. The shamrock lid at the top represents me because I am Irish. For the body, I want to have coils around the outside. I want to also have either coils on the lid or lines scraped out. For the color, I want it to be white.

This one is a simple pot with handles. The top is a dumbbell and it represents me because I like to workout. For the body, I want to have coils and I either want it to be blue or white.

I created a similar pot but I decided against adding handles and I decided against using a dumbbell as the lid. I decided to use a 4-leaf clover instead.

To start, I rolled out a slab for the base and I used a circle cookie-cutter to cut it. After that I started by adding 3 coils and then blending them. I built it up to the top and then i smoothed it out using the rubber rings and then paddled it. I created the lid by rolling out a slab and then putting it over a bowl to hold the shape. I put a coil on the outside. To add the clover, I printed out a stencil and traced it out of a slab.

The project at first was uneven and it got better after I paddled it and smoothed it. Another issue I faced was that I drew the clovers’ stems too long so I had to add clay to shorten them.

For surface decoration, I carved out the outline of a clover from my stencil. I then added the remaining three. It made it so that my pot had some personality and it wasn’t just a plain pot. I chose to make my pot two colors: white for the body, and green for the clovers. I also chose for it to be shiny.

The final product did resemble my original vision. I wanted to have handles on the side but I decided against doing it because I thought that it looked good the way it was, and I didn’t think that coils would make it look better.
